St. Paul's is currently in a time of transition as we prayerfully consider our leadership options. Come join us on any given Sunday for an uplifting sermon from one of several area ministers serving us on a rotating basis.
Katherine Turner - Organist
Katherine, an Omaha native, is a versatile pianist/organist, educator and collaborator. She holds a Masters degree in piano performance from the University of Missouri, Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. She is also a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Katherine's approach to playing the piano and organ has been shaped by a variety of study with instructors including Jackie Jenkins, Dr. James Johnson, Dr. Marie Rubis Bauer, Mark Misfeldt, Dr. Jane Solose and Karen Kushner.
While in Kansas City, Katherine enjoyed a successful career as a ballet pianist. She held a Graduate Assistant position with the dance department at the UMKC Conservatory, and was also on the accompanist faculty for the Kansas City Ballet. While at Kansas City Ballet, she had the opportunity to work with some of the leading ballet and dance professionals in the country, including the Mark Morris Dance group from Brooklyn, NY.
Another interest of Katherine's is new music, and promoting young composers' works. In 2012, she attended the soundSCAPE festival, a contemporary musical festival for composers and performers, held in the Maccagno Italian Alps. Following this inspiring experience, Katherine was a founding member of a new music ensemble in Omaha, called Ensemble 768. The ensemble focuses on performing contemporary works in non-traditional settings. She was also a pianist for Musica Nova, UMKC's resident new music ensemble.
Most recently, Katherine was invited to participate in the 2015 and 2016 Maccagno Piano Days Festival and Competition, held in beautiful Northern Italy. Her performances of Beethoven, Bartók and Liszt earned her a finalist spot in the festival's international competition.
Now back in Omaha, Katherine is on the music faculty at College of Saint Mary, where she teaches class piano, applied piano, and accompanies the CSM Chorus. She is also the assistant director for the Archdiocesan Youth Choir at St. Cecilia's Cathedral. Katherine is very happy and honored to serve as the Organist/Choirmaster at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
